Business Domain and Problem Description
The client has ever growing challenges in the area of data consolidation and data mapping that sufficiently meets the regulatory and operational needs. The warehouse database has been leveraged by from several concurrent strategic IT projects and operational changes. The development timeframe for reports has taken longer which resulted in process inefficiencies across the company. The client reorganized the data warehouse support and development activities and needed an experienced vendor partner for consulting and development needs.

The solution model followed an approach that addressed the tactical needs with the flexibility to long-term design goals for the warehouse. Requirements related to a daily extract of customers were resolved with this approach. The requirement to add a field met with a challenge to process around 10 Billion rows a day, in which data was growing at a rate of several hundred thousand a day. A two-stage process was designed to limit processing once but made available to multiple clients. The impact was an overall reduction in data processing time by manifolds.
Business Results
The solution leveraged Informatica Power Center ETL and Hyperion Interactive Reports. The backlog was fully eliminated. ETL processes were optimized as part of the overall review of fact tables, dimensions, materialized views and indexes.
The bottom line: the client was able to meet the rapidly changing business needs in a way that does not compromise the quality of information being presented.
