Customer Business

The client is a large utility company in the Midwest and Eastern region with power generation and distribution in the regulated and open markets.

Business Domain and Problem Description

The client has ever growing challenges in the area of data consolidation and data mapping that sufficiently meets the regulatory and operational needs. The warehouse database has been leveraged by from several concurrent strategic IT projects and operational changes. The development timeframe for reports has been longer which resulted in process inefficiencies across the company. To tackle the issue, the client reorganized the data warehouse support and development activities, but they still needed an experienced vendor partner for their consulting and development needs.

720 Worldwide Solution Overview

720 Worldwide consultants brought in several years of experience with data modeling, data mapping and reporting to the client. The first part of our solution was to address the backlog of pending requirements. The design activities for new requirements were streamlined and coordinated with the client architects.

The solution model addressed the tactical needs with sufficient flexibility for the warehouse’s long term design goals. The daily extract of customers was immediately resolved, while the requirement to add a field met with a challenge to process around 10 Billion rows a day, in which data was growing at a rate of several hundred thousand a day. A two-stage process was designed to limit processing once but made available to multiple clients. The impact was overall reduction data processing time by manifolds.

Business Results

The solution leveraged Informatica Power Center ETL and Hyperion Interactive Reports. The backlog log was fully eliminated. ETL processes were optimized as part of the overall review of fact tables, dimensions, materialized views and indexes.

Our client was able to meet the rapidly changing business needs in a way that wont compromise the quality of the information being presented.

The project team delivered exactly what we were looking for within the budget and time commitments. The project team also included the support/maintenance organization to ensure that what was delivered was supportable. Great work all around.

Weekly meetings and status reports kept me well informed of progress. Interaction with my team was frequent and productive. All-in-all, excellent execution.

Very confident in the team because they demonstrated great planning abilities that kept the project on track. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend them to another project.
